Centrifugal Juicer Definition

A classic example of a centrifugal juicer is the Jack La Lanne Power Juicer.

A centrifugal juicer has a blade that shreds the fruit or vegetables and a sieve to sort the pulp from the juice.

A centrifugal juicer works at high speed thus shredding the item(s) into a fine mash of juicy pulp. Hence the pulp can often be wet as not all the juice is extracted.

The sieve and blade spin at high speeds creating a centrifugal force (hence the name centrifugal juicer) and hence pushes the juice through the sieve.

Given this, centrifugal juicers tend to be large and bulky but among the cheapest juicer on the market. If you are after a cheap juicer, a centrifugal juicer is your best bet.

Because of the sieving, centrifugal juicers can get clogged with pulp and hence the more you juice the more you need to clear the sieve. They are not recommended for high power juicing.

Some centrifugal juicers, such as the Jack La Lanne Power Juicer, are so powerful they can shred whole fruit. In order to do this they need a fast spinning blade. This therefore oxidises the juice and means it does not keep for long. Apple juice is a great example as it turns brown very quickly if left standing.
